I’m proud to hold the title Head Roadrunner! 2018-2019 will be my fifth year here at Randolph. It has been a wonderful journey, getting to know this staff and community as a principal parent. My wife and I believe in this community and you will often see us engaged in our kids’ activities around Goochland County. If you are just landing here, you’ve found a hidden gem. If you’ve been here, you already know. Goochland and Goochland Schools do an amazing job raising good kids.
I was born in Lafayette, Indiana and moved to Christiansburg, Virginia when I was very young. I went to Roanoke College for my undergraduate degree, then moved to Richmond in 1998 for my first graduate degree in Health Care Administration from VCU. My wife and I moved to Goochland in 2006. It didn’t take long to fall in love with the great people and village feel that comes from such a close community.
Before coming to Randolph Elementary I worked for Henrico County Public Schools at Jackson Davis and Maybeury. I taught second and fourth grade and then became an administrator. I miss my HCPS family but am happy to call RES home.
I finished my educational leadership degree in December 2009. Before that I completed a reading specialists degree from the University of Virginia in the summer of 2009. I used my reading knowledge for the decoding and fluency needs of my second graders. In fourth grade, I really got more into the meat of reading: comprehension! Now I put all my knowledge together to help every child I interact with academically. I’ve also had a great deal of experience in motivating and celebrating elementary students.
Previous to teaching I was a health care administrator. I spent some time with Duke University Health System and three years at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital. I had always felt an urge to teach and, with the support of my wife, I switched professions. I miss that group of people, but I could not be happier with my change to the field of education. I love to see the lights turn on in the minds of our youth.
I’m married to my best friend. We met in college. Her name is Shannon. Shannon is a physical therapist. We have three kids named Caden (11), Luca (9), and Nia (7). Luca and Nia are Randolph Roadrunners! Caden has soared on to become a Goochland Middle School Eagle.
